Preparation of your roof prior to painting is vital to ensure the finished look is perfect.
Pressure cleaning is generally carried out somewhere between 3500 – 4000 psi to ensure the removal of dirt, moss, algae, lichen and other debris accumulated on the roof tiles from years of exposure to the elements, have been removed. High pressure cleaning leaves the roof surface sterilised and ready for the sealing and painting processes of your roof restoration.
In the majority of roof restoration work a “whirlaway” commercial cleaning machine is used, however, where the buildup on your roof is extreme and difficult to remove, a pressure cleaning wand is required to remove it.
Broken or damaged roof tiles are replaced prior to cleaning the roof surface to restore the integrity of the roof.
Not all roof tiles are the same and each roof has its own roof tile profile from original build. Manufacturers over time, have obsoleted some roof tile profiles, or no longer manufacture making it common for roof restorers to source these materials from second hand roofing suppliers.
Properly fitting and securing replacement tiles in the roof restoration process is essential for ensuring a watertight seal.
Bedding and Pointing of a roof’s ridge caps are very important parts of your roof structure. The bedding aligns and holds the ridge caps in place, whereas the pointing forms the hold and watertight seal.
Bedding is not always necessary to be carried out during a roof restoration unless the ridge caps are broken or lose and need to be repositioned into place.
Repointing on the other hand is necessary in all roof restorations and must be carried out to secure the tiles in place and prevent water penetration.
Flexible pointing is now used in all roof restoration works as it has expansion and contraction capabilities that cement mortar alone does not provide.
A weep hole is a nail-sized hole in the top ridge pointing to a tiled roof. They are made every 30cm along the ridge pointing. These holes allow water to escape. As a result, the ridge point stays dry.
Removing solar panels from your roof before a roof restoration commences is not necessary unless there are roof issues underneath the roof needing access for repair. Removing solar panels can also add to the overall cost of your roof restoration as this process requires a licensed electrical contractor to complete.
Where solar panels remain on the roof, we will ensure that they are securely masked to ensure no overspray occurs during the painting process. Skylights are also masked for this same reason.

To complete the tile roof restoration process 2 coats of a protective roof membrane coating are applied to your roof leaving a long term barrier to your roof for years to come.
